Rhode Island + One Random

On the back this one says "Gulls and Watch Hill Light".

On the back it says, "A Moving Lighthouse: Block Island's Southeast Light being moved out of danger from the edge of Mohegan Bluffs, 245 feet inland in August of 1993. This light has been in operation since 1875 and is 200 feet above the sea. Shore erosion caused the move".

This one is kind of depressing. On the back it says "The 252-ft Joy Line Steam LARCHMONT plying between Providence, R.I. and New York City on Feb. 11, 1907, collided with the schooner HARRY P. KNOWLTON 3 1.4 miles SSE of Watch Hill Light. At three degrees above zero, over 150 persons died in the tragedy. 75 frozen bodies came ashore on Black Island. Painting by Cap'n Ellery F. Thompson".

We went on one of the fishing charters from the Frances Fleet, which is where I got this. On the back it says, "The Lady Frances is one of the Frances fleet vessels and sails from the Port of Galilee located in Narragansett, RI. This one isn't from Rhode Island.. it's another from the vintage reprint series that Ocean State Job Lot did. This one has the New York State Theodore Roosevelt Memorial, Central Park West, New York, NY, C. 1925.

Rhode Island

These are from my trip to Rhode Island this past summer.

I love postcards like this! On the back it says "Greetings from Rhode Island. Nickname: Little Rhody. Area in Square Miles: 1,248. Entered the Union: May 29, 1790". It's worth it to look at this postcard large!

I absolutely love this one too. I bought this at the Fantastic Umbrella Factory. On the back it says "Greetings from, Charlestown, Rhode Island".

This is a pretty simple postcard, but I still like it. On the back it just says "Greetings from Charlestown, Rhode Island".

I love this one! It's worth it to look at the bigger version of this one too. It says, "Greetings from Southern New England. Southern New England is a good place to vacation and live, work, and play". I bought a few extra of this one to use for postcrossing :)

I thought this one was really funny. I saw it at a little convenience store. The back says, "Greetings from New England. Dear _____ (so you can fill in a name). I haven't written because (then you check I or We)..." Then there are a number of options to check like: Ran out of money gambling at Foxwoods, Got bombed on iced tea in Westerly, Had an affair with a dolphin in Mystic, Been in jail in Niantic, Been cruising off Block Island, Had a meaningful relationship at Misquamicut Beach, having a great time (glad you're not here), The picture I wanted to send is not on the card, trapped a beach bunny at Watch Hill, Been chasing girls in Boston, Been chasing boys in Providence, fell in love in New London, tried to hitch a ride on Atlantic Ave, being held captive in Norwich, been skinny dipping on Moonstone Beach, been looking for the beef in Narragansett, and went bankrupt at Mohegan Sun.

I would have scanned it in rather than type it out, but the scanner was not cooperating so I gave up!

Well it's been a few weeks since I've updated.. I've been really busy with school! These postcards are from my boyfriend, Eric :)

This is the first postcard he ever got me. I think this one is from four-ish years ago? He bought this when he was on vacation with his family in Rhode Island. I've always really liked this one!


This one is from three years ago. This was the first year that I went on vacation with his family, and the summer before I started college. On the front, there is the Block Island Ferry. The passage says: "Block Island is reached by ferryboat from Point Judith & Providence, Rhode Island and New London, Connecticut".


Eric attached this one to my Christmas presents this year :) It's from Kent Falls State Park, in CT. I'm really excited to go! The passage says: "Kent Falls State Park, scenic roadside parkland and picnic area along side Housatonic River". The water fall there is supposed to be really pretty, so I can't wait to take some photos!


This is another one I got for Christmas this year. It's from Captain's Cove Seaport in Bridgeport, Connecticut. I've never been there, but it looks pretty!

Rhode Island

These are the postcards I've gotten the past couple years in Rhode Island, on vacation with Eric & his family.

This is one of my favorite postcards. On the back it says: "Hope: The Rhode Island State Motto. Whispy clouds drift through a powder blue sky, while the setting sun casts a copper glow on the bow of this boat, moored at Bowen's Wharf. Taken during September, this image depicts one of the last days of summer in Newport".

The back of this one says: "The Narragansett Towers: Still standing since 1886. One of America's best known summer vacation destinations, Narragansett is located in Rhode Island's South County. The elegant towers (formerly part of the Narragansett Pier Casino) have withstood hurricanes and fires throughout the years, faithfully remaining Narragansett's strongest link to the past for nearly a century".


The back of this ones states: "The selected lights of Rhode Island: Dutch Island 1857, Beavertail 1856, Point Judith 1857, Block Island Southeast 1875, Block Island North 1867, Conanicut Island 1886, Plum Beach 1899, Rose Island 1870, Newport Harbor 1865, Castle Hill 1890".

On the back it says: "Lobsters are the most valuable seafood species caught by New England commercial fisherman".


On the back it says: "U.S. Coast Guard Academy Cadets laying aloft to furl sail aboard their 295-foot training Bark, Eagle. During summer cruises from the Academy in New London, Conn, cadets learn seamanship aboard the Eagle to prepare them for their career as future Coast Guard officers".


This one isn't officially a Rhode Island postcard, but I bought it on the way back to CT, so I'm putting it in this category. On the back it says: "A view of Latimer Reef Lighthouse and fishing dragger in a painting by Cap'n Ellery F. Thompson of Mystic, Connecticut".

The back of this one says: "A sea gull in the setting sun along the scenic New England coastline".

When I scanned this one, the color got drained a bit :( I couldn't really fix it without making it look rediculous. On the back it says: "Greetings from Charlestown, Quonochontaug and Weekapaug, Rhode Island".


I actually had lunch & dinner right by here. It's fun watching the ferries coming & going! On the back it says: "Jerusalem fishing village is part of Narragansett and is directly opposite Galilee Fishing Village. The MV Carol Jean is seen leaving in the Port of Galilee for Block Island and will pass through the Galilee Breachway".
