Random Postcards

Here are a bunch of somewhat random cards from the batch I recently scanned. I'm trying to group them in categories for future posts & these just sort of didn't fit.

"Rex & Bob Go Fishing" Thought this one was pretty funny. The puppy caught a way better fish!

This is from the Naswa resort in Laconia, NH. I've never stayed there, but I've driven by it about a million times. I think they sent this to me in the mail with a vacation guide. On the back it says, "Relax... unwind at the Naswa Resort on Paugus Bay of Lake Winnipesaukee. Waterfront housekeeping cottages, Efficiency suites, and Motel rooms. Enjoy waterside dining at the Naswa resturant or an after dinner cordial in the NazBar. World famous beach bar & grill, live music, free docking. Family owned & operated since 1935".

Flea Market Cards & New Hampshire

This one if from Asbury Park, N.J. and it's postmarked from Sept. 17, 1951.

This one is from the Whitter Hotel Court -- 1625 S. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. AAA Recommended. On U.S. 1, one mile south of Fort Lauderdale Bridge. Modern, well equipped units, heated and with tiled shower baths. Reduced summer rates. Close to restaurants and business section. Postmarked October 1950. I checked to see if the hotel still exists, but I couldn't find it.

This one is of "Royal Poinciana Tree Amidst Majestic Royal Palms, Florida". Postmarked May 7th, 1955.

"Morning twilight from the summit of Mount Washington"

"Weirs Beach Around the Turn of the Century". You can really see the similarities compared to how it looks now!

"Common Loon -Known for its mournful yodel sound and sometimes calls during the night. They are expert divers and dive to a depth of 200ft". I absolutely love loons :)

"New Hampshire's Autumn Foliage attracts travelers from across the United States and Canada".

Postcrossing + one old one!

This one was sent from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. On the back, the text under Pittsburgh says: "Between 1891 and 1911 Pittsburgh was spelled without the "h". This photo was taken in the rotunda of the Pennsylvanian, at the corner of 10th and Liberty".

I just got this one recently. I always think it's fun when they add stickers :)

This is the first cartoon postcard I've gotten! It was sent from Poland.

This one was sent from Arizona and it says "The sight of a rainbow after a desert shower is magnificent". She also included an interesting fact about the desert: "When it rains in the desert it really does have its own smell. A plant called the creosote bush makes a wax like substance to keep in H2O & fend off animals. When it rains though, it creates the smell of desert rain".

This was sent to my grandparents after they got married. The postcard is from the Everglades Club in Palm Beach, Florida. It was mailed in November of 1947.

Found

Last week, I cleaned out my closet & I found these postcards scattered in a few boxes. So here they are!

I got this one at some point during elementary school, so probably about ten-ish years ago. On the back it says: "Most of the cranberry crop is harvested on flooded bogs and loaded into waiting trucks. These berries are headed for freezers today, later destined for sauce and juice".

I got this one on the same trip as the first one I posted. On the back it says: "The Mayflower II is a full size replica of the first ship that carried European settlers to the shores of America in 1620".

I got this one either in elementary or middle school, so it's pretty old as well!

This one was where we stayed in Cape Cod. The website for the hotel is here. I don't really remember too much about the hotel, other than I was disappointed by the pool because it was a lot smaller than it looks in the photos.

This one I got at Epcot seven-ish years ago. I remember really liking Epcot! When we go back to Florida, we'll have to go there again.

This one is really shiny, haha! On the back it says: "Mickey & Minnie. Two of the Magic Kingdom's most famous residents welcome you to join them for fun and excitement at Walt Disney World".

Florida

These are all my postcards from my multiple trips to Florida. Just to warn you, there's a lot!

I have a few postcards from this aquarium. We went there two years ago. To be honest, it was just okay. I thought it was kind of expensive to get in, and we didn't really get to see a lot. They were doing renovations as well, so a lot of stuff was closed. Unfortunately, we didn't know about the renovations until we were there. Oh well, I got some good pictures! The bird in this photo is the Roseate Spoonbill.

This is my favorite postcard from the aquarium. One of the best parts of the aquarium was the otters.. I love watching them swim! I took a video of them, haha :)

The back of this postcard says: "Fabulous and rare, sea dragons are fantasies come to life. Their domain is off the coast of Southern Australia, where cool kelp forests and colorful sponge gardens grow on rocky underwater cliffs".

In this postcard, a Cownose Ray is pictured.

The back says: "St. Pete Beach Florida. Sun, sand, and fun on the west coast of Florida along the Gulf of Mexico". We always stay on St. Pete's Beach. I really like it there! The water is always really nice, and there are gorgeous sun sets!

This postcard was sent to us by my aunt, when she was on vacation in Florida. I thought it was pretty funny :)

Here's another one that a friend sent me about 5-6 years ago :) In case you can't read it, the passage on the back says: "The water's warm, the sun shines all the time and there's lots to do. I wish you were here."

This one has the legend of the Sand Dollar. I've always loved sand dollars, but I've never been able to find a whole one :(

I figured this one went with the last one! I actually think I bought them together!

This is the last one I have about legends of sea creatures, haha. But they're interesting to read!

Here's one from Busch Gardens. On the back it says: "The tiger is a solitary animal with a clearly marked territory which may extend up to 400 square miles. It is very agile and swims well. Tigers hunt at night, lying in ambush for a wide variety of prey including deer, buffalo, goats, and small mammals".

The passage on the back states: "The chimpanzee spends most of its time foraging for food in trees and on the ground. It feeds predominately on fruits, but supplements its diet with leaves, nuts, seeds, termites, and ants. DNA studies have confirmed that the chimpanzee is more closely related to humans than any other species".

I'll finish up with the first postcard I got in Florida, on my first trip there in middle school! On the back, it simply states: "Greetings from Florida".

Old Postcards

All of these postcards were written to my grandparents. Most of them are from my parents, but there are two from my grandma's brothers.

This postcard is from my grandmother's brother, Billy. He had just moved down to Arizona, and sent this to her after he arrived there.

This postcard was from my parents to my grandparents four years before I was born.
This is another one from my parents to my grandparents. I believe they sent this during their honeymoon.

This postcard was from my parents to my grandparents two years before I was born. I'm not sure if you can read it on there, but the photo is from the Marginal Way in Ogunquit, Maine. My parents used to love to stay there!

This one was sent to my grandparents from my grandma's brother and his wife. Tivoli is in Denmark, and apparently they did a lot of traveling!

This one is from my family to my grandparents. I threw it into this category because although its from a family trip that I went on, I didn't write it. Plus it didn't fit into any of the other categories I have, haha :) I do remember that I absolutely loved taking the train up Mount Washington. I'd really like to do it again!

This one has no writing on it, and I'm not exactly sure who bought it. But I found it in a box with some photos, so I kept it. On the back it says the photo is from Quail Hollow Farm in Sandwich, Massachusetts. I tried looking it up, but I couldn't find it. I wonder if it's still around.. it looks like it would be fun to visit!

First Post!

Well here is my first post. I figured I'll post my current collection in sections, and as I gain new postcards I will add new entries. The first category I have is hotels that my family and I have stayed at over the years.
Here is postcard number one. This is from the Anchorage on the Lake in Tilton, New Hampshire. This is on lake Winnisquam, which is where we go on vacation every year. I wrote this postcard when I was very young, to my grandma. I blurred out the address for obvious reasons.


The two postcards above are both from the same place: The Lodge. This is located in Jackson, New Hampshire. We stayed here one summer, but it looks like it would be beautiful in the winter! While we stayed there we visited Mount Washington and Storyland.

This postcard was from the Ocean Mist in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts. We stayed here one winter, when I was in high school. From what I remember, we liked it there. We got a loft room, so I was able to have my own space. In the upstairs area there was a couch, a few chairs, and a TV. I made that my bedroom while we were there, haha!

This postcard is from the Paradise Inn located in Bennington Vermont. My grandparents used to love staying here. I wasn't even sure it was still open, but I found the website! I stayed there a few times when I was really little, but that was about twenty years ago!
The Tradewinds Sandpiper Resort is located on St. Petersburg Beach in Florida. I've stayed there multiple times over the past few years, and we loved it. At this place, there are actually two hotels, with different names. Next time we go back, we'll probably be staying here again!
